Partnership with the B&C Club: TALK WITH DR DANIEL ZAGURY - The Barbarity of Ordinary Men
About The Event
Daniel Zagury is a well-known forensic psychiatrist of the hospitals, expert at the Appeals Court in Paris. Since 25 years, he has been brought to give evidence in multiple trials involving serial killers, authors of crimes of passion, actors of genocide and more recently jihadists and terrorists. He devotes a book to question what the philosopher Hannah Arendt has so well defined as “The Banality of Evil”.
How can a husband inflict a hundred knife wounds on the wife he loves? Or a young mother kill her new-born child? In his book, Daniel Zagury studies the most barbaric acts committed by the most ordinary people, inciting the incredulity of their entourage and condemnation as “monsters” by public opinion.
The psychiatrist, an expert in his field, explains how, in acts of barbarism, the ultimate moral and emotional obstacles are repressed to permit the unthinkable.
